How Strength Training Can Help You Find Yourself Again After Having Kids

It's easy to lose yourself after having kids.

Not because you don't love being a parent, but because so much of your time, energy, and attention is spent looking after everyone else.

Your days become filled with school drop-offs, work, meal prep, washing, appointments, and making sure everyone else's needs are met. Somewhere along the way, your own health, hobbies, and goals quietly move to the bottom of the list.

One day, you realise you don't quite feel like yourself anymore.

Maybe your confidence has changed. Maybe your energy isn't what it used to be. Maybe your body feels weaker, stiffer, or unfamiliar. Or maybe you've simply lost the part of your life that was just for you.

If that sounds familiar, you're not alone.

Many people think getting back into fitness is about losing weight, but after coaching parents, I've found that's rarely the real reason they start.

What they're really looking for is the feeling they used to have.

They want to feel strong. They want more energy. They want to feel capable again. They want to walk into a room with confidence, keep up with their kids, and feel proud of what their body can do.

That's why I believe strength training is about so much more than changing how you look.

It's about rebuilding your relationship with yourself.

Every session is an opportunity to prove that you're capable of more than you think. You learn a new

movement, lift a little heavier, improve your technique, or simply show up on a day when it would have been easier not to. Those small wins build confidence that extends far beyond the gym.

Over time, you notice the everyday changes.

You're carrying your children more easily. You're not as sore after a busy day. You have more energy, better posture, and a body that feels stronger and more resilient.

Most importantly, you start trusting yourself again.

One of the biggest barriers I hear from parents is guilt.

"I should be spending this time with my family."

But taking care of yourself isn't taking something away from your family—it's giving them a healthier, happier, and more present version of you.

When you feel stronger, you have more energy.

When you move better, everyday tasks become easier.

When you feel confident, it shows up in every part of your life.

The challenge is that many people try to do it alone. They follow random workouts online, jump between programs, or think they need to train every day to make progress. Eventually, life gets busy, motivation fades, and they end up back where they started.

Real progress comes from having a plan that fits your life.

That's why my coaching focuses on building strength from the ground up through quality movement, expert technique, and individualised programming. Whether you choose 1:1 personal training or semi-private coaching, the goal is the same: to help you build a body that's stronger, more capable, and supports the life you want to live.

You don't need to become the person you were before having kids.

You have the opportunity to become someone even stronger.

Someone who moves with confidence, has the energy to enjoy life with their family, and feels proud of what they've built.

Because finding yourself again isn't about going backwards.

It's about moving forwards—and discovering just how strong you're capable of becoming.
